Spinal decompression in Carrollton, TX is performed by Dr. Hoa Nguyen. It can help with your back pain without you undergoing surgery. At Dallas Spine Center, we use the DRX9000 bed that can improve your stability and strengthen your back muscles.

What is Spinal Decompression?

Spinal decompression is a therapy that involves pulling your spine in two different directions. At Dallas Spine Center, we use the DRX9000 smart bed. It pulls your spine to create a vacuum inside the disc. As it’s sucking air, it puts the disc back to its original position.

A disc is like a cushion pad that sits between individual bones of your spine. When your spine presses too hard on that cushion, it pokes out and pinches the nerves, causing sharp pain that radiates to your leg. That’s not all. It also makes your arms numb and your back hurt while you bend down.

You won’t experience full healing immediately after the session. But it will stop the pain so you can go back to doing your normal activities.

How Dr. Nguyen Performs Spinal Decompression at Dallas Spine Center

At Dallas Spine Center, we use the DRX9000 bed for spinal decompression. Our chiropractor, Dr. Nguyen, uses the rules made by brain and back scientists based in Florida. This protocol includes 18 gentle pulls over half an hour each time. The overall treatment will be 20 to 28 visits for complete healing. We’re not like other chiropractic offices because we don’t rush your treatment. Instead, we follow these rules for a successful treatment.

During the treatment, you lie on this special bed and get fitted with a harness. The machine then applies a force to your spine. This force is measured based on your weight and the disc being treated. Dr. Nguyen typically starts with an easy stretch during your first visit. When you get used to it, the stretch gets a little stronger. It’s completely safe. It’s also totally controlled by computers and made just for your body.

Because of how this therapy relieves pressure on your nerves and muscles, it stops the pain and helps your body completely relax. Hence, most of our patients sleep while we treat them. They even snore because of how relaxing it is.

What Your Session Will Be Like

  1. 1You lie down flat on the special bed. Dr. Nguyen applies a harness around your hips and lower ribs. It must feel snug and secure but not pinching.
  2. 2When the bed starts, it applies force that lengthens your spine and eases it off. It does so for 18 pulls.
  3. 3You get to rest quietly for 30 minutes or so. You can listen to songs, close your eyes, and drift off to sleep.
  4. 4You can stand up slowly and easily after the treatment is done. Some of our patients feel better on day one, while others feel better after a few visits.
  5. 5Once the session is over, you can drive home and resume your usual daily activities.

Who Spinal Decompression is For and Who Isn’t

Spinal decompression is ideal if you suffer from chronic back or neck pain because of herniated or bulging discs and pinched nerves. Before Dr. Nguyen recommends this therapy, he will take imaging of your spine to find out if your disc is poking a nerve and if your bones have space between them.

You can undergo this therapy whether you’re in your 30s or 70s. Age matters as well as how your back looks in the imaging.

However, this therapy isn’t designed for everyone. This is not ideal if you’re pregnant. If your bone is broken, or you have metal pieces in your back, Dr. Nguyen may recommend another therapy.

Conditions Spinal Decompression Helps

We use decompression mostly for problems related to a disc that pinches your body’s wires.

If your pain zooms down your leg and images show a squished cushion, trying this bed is a great idea.

What to Expect Afterward and How Often You’ll Come In

When the treatment is done, you’ll feel relieved and comfortable upon standing up. You may even feel that your back pain is gone. But some people experience better outcomes after a few visits.

Mild soreness is normal after the therapy. This is because your muscles get stretched again and again. The feeling is similar to muscle soreness that you feel after a new exercise routine. It happens because your spine, muscles, ligaments, and tissues experience a certain movement that they’re not used to.

The number of visits will depend on your condition. The therapy is cumulative. Thus, Dr. Nguyen will build a plan. The typical number is between 20 and 28 visits. Our chiropractor will shorten or lengthen your treatment based on how your body responds to the treatment. That’s why he’ll check your back every session to see how strong you’re getting.

What Patients Tell Us

Many of our patients tell us that they feel better after their sessions. Some would even snore while they’re lying on the bed. The overall therapy is relaxing, so many of them fall asleep and even snore.

Dr. Nguyen will always tell them that the main goal is to stop the pain so they can get back to their activities. Your experience may be different from others. The squished cushion is unique, but this therapy will help you feel amazing without any surgical intervention.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does spinal decompression hurt?

Most patients find the treatment comfortable. You might feel that your muscles are being pulled. It’s not painful. Many patients even fall asleep during the 30-minute session. You might experience soreness afterward, but it’s different from the nerve pain you came in with, and it only lasts a few days.

How many sessions will I need?

Most treatment plans run 20 to 28 sessions, three times per week at first. It’s the typical range where people see significant outcomes. Dr. Nguyen will reassess your progress midway through. Spinal decompression is not a magic fix. The main goal is to build a plan that offers lasting relief.

Can I do spinal decompression if I have bone-on-bone arthritis?

No, it’s not recommended for this condition. We only recommend spinal decompression if you have bulging and herniated discs. When your bone is already rubbing on another bone, this therapy is not ideal. Dr. Nguyen evaluates your imaging on the first visit to ensure you’re a safe candidate. If not, he’ll tell you and talk about alternatives.

What’s the difference between the DRX9000 and other compression tables?

The DRX9000 is a controlled system designed specifically for spinal decompression. Dr. Nguyen uses the full protocol. That is, 18 cycles per session, 28 to 30 minutes. The pulling force is customized based on your body weight. Some chiropractic offices use a shorter duration. The DRX9000 was built for disc treatment, and our chiropractor uses it the way the research states it works best.

Will I need treatment forever?

No. The initial treatment plan is 20 to 28 sessions over a couple of months. If you’re feeling better, we’ll transition to maintenance. The goal is to resolve the problem and not to create lifelong dependence.

Ready to See If Spinal Decompression is Right for You?

If your back hurts and you want to fix it without surgery, we’ll start with a consultation and a physical checkup, take X-rays, and talk about a plan. Dr. Nguyen will explain if the stretching bed is right for you and show you how your healing plan will work.
